A 28-year-old man was killed Sunday morning when his Hilo-bound Toyota pickup rolled over near the 41-mile marker of Highway 11 in Ka‘u, according to Hawaii Fire Department officials.
Fire Battalion Chief Matthias Kusch said the driver of the pickup was ejected from the vehicle and was dead at the scene.
Police and Fire units responded to the 7:47 a.m. alarm.
Highway 11 was closed down for several hours to clear the highway and accommodate the investigation.
Authorities haven’t yet publicly released the victim’s identity.
